A few weeks ago, I got a big package in the mail with the word COOKIES stamped on the side in huge, bold letters (imagine the intrigue of all the postal workers). I’d been looking forward to this particular package from Goodie Girl Cookies, mostly because I’m in love with their branding and I was dying to know if their gluten-free cookies were as tasty as they look. Inside the box were the cutest packages of cookies with flavors like Birthday Cake, Fudge Striped, Mint Cookies, and Chocolate Creme (to name only a few), and I wasted no time popping them open to taste. When it comes to spooky sprinkles, SprinklePop is killing it. They’ve got the perfect collection of Halloween and Fall-themed sprinkles, and I’ve gotten to create some amazing projects with them in the past (my fave being this scary Monster Mashup cake!). Hooray that it’s nearly summertime! It’s my favorite time of year, mainly because Portland gets sunny and so picturesque. I just want to be outside 24/7 soaking it all up! Since ice cream is such an iconic summer treat, I wanted to use it as inspiration for these Banana Split Cupcakes. There’s no actual ice cream involved, just tons of cuteness and flavors that are so perfect together.
Decorating with the spatula painted technique has proven to be one of my very favorite ways to add color and texture to cakes. It’s one of the easiest techniques ever, and I’ve found it to be really therapeutic to put on a great album, mix up a fun buttercream color palette, and swipe away. Since it’s such great art therapy, I was pondering other ways to incorporate the technique into cake decorating when I realized – why not try it on cupcakes? I tested it out over the weekend and am so in love with how they turned out!

One of my very favorite mediums for creating cake and cupcake toppers is white chocolate. Not only is it versatile and easy to work with, it actually tastes good. And with some pretty additions like this eye-catching Sea Glass sprinkle mix and a food color gel marble effect, it’s downright beautiful! PS: the thing I love about these SprinklePop sprinkles is that they actually taste good too (the larger sprinkles are actually Sixlets!), so you get pretty color and texture without sacrificing flavor – a total win win!

When I first started baking cupcakes, frosting them was as simple as using a butter knife to heap the buttercream on top.
