One of my biggest goals for this year has been to film a cake course, and I’m so excited to say that IT’S HAPPENING! My friends at Domestika reached out earlier this year and invited me to come film a birthday cake course at their studio in Madrid. And since I’ve wanted to go to Spain for as long as I can remember, it was a fast yes!

This cake course is going to cover everything you need to know to make perfect birthday cakes for your loved ones, from planning out the design to baking the cake layers, making the buttercream, building a structurally sound layer cake, and decorating it in all sorts of ways. I’ll be filming for an entire week, so the course will cover a lot. It will also be available in eight languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Italian, Dutch, and Polish). I can’t wait to share more details when we have a launch date later this year!
Since I truly have always wanted to go to Spain, I’ll be staying for a while after filming week to explore the country and relax on its beautiful beaches. And as if that wasn’t enough, I decided to take things even further and treat myself to a month-long sabbatical to end my Summer.

Between my book launch last year, having my second baby, and balancing being a full-time mom of two with running Sugar & Sparrow, I realize that (like everyone) I need a break! It feels like the right time for me.
BUT in an effort to not leave you hanging while I’m away, here are some ways to stay connected until I return:
- Sign up for my email newsletter. I’ve scheduled a weekly email to inspire your baking and provide helpful tips while I’m away, but you’ll want to be on my email list for the future too. I promise to only email you the best kind of news (cause it’s always about cake)!
- If you have a baking question, check out my FAQ section. This is where I answer all of the most common questions I get. Questions like how much buttercream do I need for this specific cake size? Or what’s the best way to store a cake? Or if I decorate a cake on a Wednesday will it be okay to serve on a Saturday? And so on.
- Help each other out in the comments sections of my blog or on Instagram! You might have a helpful answer to someone else’s question. It’s always good to help out your fellow baker.
- Subscribe to my YouTube channel for video updates. I’ll be uploading the Domestika course trailer there when it’s ready! I’ll probably be posting some videos of my adventures in Spain too, because SPAIN!

I’ll see you all in September with some NEW Fall recipes + stories and photos of my travels!
